ABM UK, a leading provider of facilities solutions, won the top award, the ‘Overall Loo of the Year Award Trophy’ at the Loo of the Year Awards 2017, which was held at The St Johns Hotel in Solihull, Birmingham on 8 December 2017.
ABM UK has won many Loo of the Year awards in the past, including a national award in 2016, as part of its management of the facilities at Fort Kinnaird retail park near Edinburgh. Impressively, ABM UK now becomes only the second ever facilities management or cleaning company to win the overall award in the event’s 30-year history.
Jenna Pollock, Divisional Director, Scotland at ABM UK, commented: “This award is very much dedicated to ABM UK’s staff who have worked tirelessly to keep their respective facilities consistently clean, tidy and pleasant for the thousands of guests that use them. ABM UK places a huge amount of emphasis on employee training, which has undoubtedly played a major part in winning this accolade.
“We’re incredibly proud to have won the award, particularly as we’re only the second ever facilities management or cleaning firm to have been recognised for our efforts. Going forward, the award gives us the impetus to set the bar even higher and to never let our high standards slip.”
Mike Bone, Managing Director of the Loo of the Year Awards, said: “The reason why ABM UK won the 2017 Overall Loo of the Year Award Trophy was that all of ABM UK’s 2017 entries were exceptionally clean and well maintained. This resulted in the company being awarded the top Platinum Award grade for 94 per cent of its 34 entries, which included four national awards for Scotland. ABM UK was also awarded the new Washroom Cleaner of the Year Award for England in the External Contractor sector.”
Inge Johnson Mitchell, Centre Manager of The Gate, Newcastle’s premier leisure and entertainment centre, which has its toilet facilities managed by ABM UK, commented: “It’s wonderful for The Gate to have been graded Platinum at this year’s Loo of The Year Awards 2017. It’s such a high achievement and only possible thanks to the dedicated team of staff we have onsite. We understand the customers experience with us includes all aspects of their visit, including the standard of toilets available, and we want to make sure their visit with us is as comfortable as possible.”
The Loo of the Year Awards celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2017, and has evolved with the increasing user expectation for clean, hygienic and attractive washrooms when and where they are provided throughout the UK to meet the needs of all types of users – male, female, babies and children, and those needing accessible or Changing Places facilities.
Judges independently inspect, grade and recognise entrants’ washrooms from all market sectors including major shopping centres and other retailers, airports, motorway service stations, pubs, restaurants, holiday parks and visitor attractions. Entrants benefit from recognition in achieving a recognised UK award and information on adherence to statutory requirements and the latest developments in washroom provision.
