Delphis Eco announces roll-out of 67% PCR triggers for 700ml spray bottles

Eco-friendly cleaning products company, Delphis Eco, has announced that from August, it will be rolling out its 67 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) triggers for 700ml spray bottles, marking another step forward in its mission to reduce the overall impact on the environment as it heads towards achieving net zero.

Over the last six years Delphis Eco has built the infrastructure to use exclusively British post-consumer recycled plastic for its product bottles, and was the first company in the industry to do so. The process reduces carbon emissions by 61 per cent when compared with virgin plastic, and by using only local waste, the business is reducing its impact even further by avoiding transport emissions from importing overseas plastic waste.

Announced as Plastic Free July comes to an end, Delphis Eco is celebrating the evolution of its triggers since their inception in 2007 when they were made of 100 per cent virgin plastic and had a metal spring. In 2014 the business was one of the first manufacturers to produce triggers with an innovative vacuum pump rather than a metal spring. Today, they are made of 67 per cent recycled plastic (with only the remaining 33 per cent being made of virgin plastic).

Mark Jankovich, CEO of Delphis Eco said: “We believe this is a game-changer for the sector as historically, triggers have been the most difficult part of any packaging to recycle.

“Our spray bottle triggers are now made of 67 per cent post-consumer recycled plastic and this is a great achievement for the Delphis Eco team.

“The updated triggers reduce the individual product’s carbon footprint by a further 40 per cent, and so we are edging ever closer to 100 per cent recycled material for all of our product packaging.  With these new triggers, our 700ml spray bottles are now made of 96 per cent post-consumer recycled plastic.”

The triggers, which contain no mixed materials and work through a vacuum pump system, are fully recyclable and built to last. They can be reused over and over again with the strength of 20,000 compressions and work across Delphis Eco’s refill ranges.

Jankovich added: “I believe passionately that all businesses need to work harder to make a difference by constantly assessing how they operate and how they can do more to reduce their impact on our environment.

“It is not about making one huge change but instead making lots of small adjustments that together add up to a big difference.”

In 2019 Delphis Eco launched its Recycled Plastic Rating (RPR) to help customers understand the percentage of recycled content present in the products they buy. The rating, which is included on all product labels keeps customers informed and keeps Delphis Eco continually accountable.
