Environment improvements at police station

A Northamptonshire police station has enlisted the services of a local asbestos removal company to improve the working environment for its officers.

Specialist Remediation Solutions (SRS) of Desborough was called in to address the condition of the station’s boiler room and connecting tunnels which contained asbestos insulation residues.

The expert team carried out the removal by means of scraping and encapsulating the walls. Subsequently, the team also painted the floor with a red hard-wearing paint as well.

The tunnel connecting the boiler room to the evidence room was also cleaned thoroughly, using the team’s expertise in confined spaces.

SRS Managing Director, Stephen Booth said: “Encapsulation is a method of safely managing any hazardous materials that may contain asbestos by sealing them with a protective coating.

“This job was not a straightforward scrape and paint situation due to the confined spaces within the tunnel and parts of the boiler room. However, our expert team secured the area, scraped the walls of any residual insulation as far as reasonably practicable under fully controlled conditions and HSE notification, and left the boiler room and tunnel in a spotless condition. It is a rewarding process in which we can make a real difference in a short space of time.

“We work closely with the local police stations in Northamptonshire to ensure that the environment for officers, visitors and those detained in cells is always safe and clean, whether that be through asbestos removal or the biohazard cleaning of cells.”
