Table linen use and demand are at their highest over the festive season, when the hospitality sector brings out its best table settings, cloths, napkins and associated items, to cater for the increase in diners over Christmas and New Year
The classic quality appearance of a well-set table adds to the special experience of dining at Christmas so for commercial laundries, December and January are very busy times. Keeping up with the increase in table linens, cooking cloths and also bed linens and towels, as hotels, bed and breakfasts and holiday lets benefit from the increase in bookings, can be a real challenge.
Staffing up is one thing but laundries also need to ensure they have sufficient chemicals to cover the increase in load, and the right chemicals that will treat stains whilst maintaining the integrity of the linen for longer life cycles.
By washing at cooler temperatures, the wash process is much gentler on the linen, promoting longer life of the natural fibres. Christeyns’ Cool Chemistry, a total wash concept that uses a pH neutral process, delivers improved whiteness over conventional chemistry but at temperatures from as low as 400c and whilst reducing freshwater usage to as little as 2litres/KG.
The detergent chemistry operates at a neutral pH, in place of traditional highly alkaline chemicals, and is able to minimise any chemical damage to textiles thus extending the life of the linen.
Christeyns most recent detergent system, Enzymatic Process Innovation by Christeyns, or EPIC, adds another dimension to the wash process. EPIC is a flexible detergent system in which the enzyme mixtures are created and dosed according to the stain. It targets stains, using only a low dose of the mixture as needed to ensure the correct clean.
By replacing 50 per cent of the surfactants in the wash chemicals and with biological enzymes, laundries are able to improve their wastewater quality considerably. In addition, there are also cost savings in the reduced amount of detergents required, due to accurate dosing from the EPIX dosing equipment. Enzymes are very effective on typical F&B stains such as protein and fats so can produce great results on difficult to process items such as tea towels and wipers.
Not only does the use of table linen makes the festive atmosphere that little bit more special, it is also far more sustainable than disposable paper placemats and napkins.
We are wishing all our commercial laundry customers a very bright, busy and stain free festive season!
