BioHygiene launches BioMetrix to close the cleaning industry’s data gap
New data intelligence platform helps organisations make cleaning decisions that support operational, commercial and environmental priorities

BioHygiene, the UK biotechnology-led cleaning brand backed by more than 30 years of scientific expertise from Biological Preparations, has launched BioMetrix: a new data intelligence platform developed specifically for the cleaning sector.
BioMetrix connects verified purchasing information supplied by participating distributors with BioHygiene’s product, calculated usage and carbon data. It gives authorised customers a clearer view of what is being purchased across participating contracts and sites, how product adoption differs, and the environmental impact behind their cleaning choices.
The platform addresses a longstanding challenge for multi-site organisations and facilities management providers: cleaning generates significant volumes of information, but that information is often split between invoices, spreadsheets, distributor systems, and static sustainability reports.
As a result, procurement, operations and sustainability teams can struggle to answer seemingly straightforward questions.
Which products are being purchased across the estate? What do concentrate purchases represent once diluted and in use? Are agreed products being adopted consistently? Where does purchasing differ between sites? What product-level carbon evidence is available to support environmental reporting and carbon-reduction strategies?
BioMetrix brings these different parts of the picture together.

Turning cleaning information into business insight
Through accessible dashboards, BioMetrix enables authorised customers to explore:
- BioHygiene purchasing across participating contracts and sites
- Product mix and adoption patterns
- Purchased quantities and calculated in-use litres
- Product-level CO₂e information
- Cradle-to-grave environmental impact
- Estimated avoided emissions over defined reporting periods
The platform is designed to support different priorities across an organisation.
For facilities management and operations teams, BioMetrix can highlight where purchasing or product adoption differs from the wider estate picture, helping users identify where further questions, engagement or operational support may be valuable.
For procurement teams, it provides clearer evidence for supplier and contract reviews, helping conversations move beyond what has been delivered towards how products are being adopted across participating sites.
For sustainability teams, it connects product-level carbon information with verified purchasing activity, helping to make cleaning more visible within environmental assessments and wider Scope 3 conversations.
BioMetrix does not automatically diagnose the reason for a difference or replace an organisation’s full carbon inventory. Instead, it provides a clearer evidence base from which teams can investigate, engage and make more informed decisions.
Responding to growing expectations for evidence
The launch comes as businesses face increasing pressure to demonstrate the evidence behind environmental claims and supply-chain decisions.
The UK’s Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting framework requires large businesses within scope to disclose energy use and associated greenhouse gas emissions. The Government has also finalised UK Sustainability Reporting Standards S1 and S2 for voluntary use while regulators consider future reporting requirements for certain organisations.
Alongside formal reporting requirements, environmental claims must be clear, accurate and capable of being substantiated under the Competition and Markets Authority’s Green Claims Code.
This direction of travel is increasing demand for more specific, decision-useful information from suppliers, particularly across Scope 3 purchased goods and services.
Cleaning products form part of that value-chain impact, but product-level information has traditionally been difficult to connect with what an organisation is actually purchasing across its estate.
BioMetrix has been created to help close that gap.
Moving environmental conversations beyond product claims
BioHygiene’s product carbon footprints take a cradle-to-grave approach, considering raw materials, manufacturing, packaging, distribution, product use and end of life.
Figures are calculated using consistent boundaries aligned with ISO 14067 and the GHG Protocol Product Life Cycle Accounting and Reporting Standard. Direct supplier and manufacturer information is prioritised, with recognised datasets and appropriate averages used where primary information is unavailable.
By connecting this product-level evidence with verified purchasing information, BioMetrix provides customers with cleaning-related carbon data that is more closely connected to their own purchasing activity.
The platform also presents estimated avoided emissions separately. Avoided emissions represent the calculated difference between the cradle-to-grave emissions of a BioHygiene product and a defined, modelled petrochemical equivalent performing the same function.
Sometimes informally described as “Scope 4”, avoided emissions are not an official GHG Protocol scope and cannot be deducted from an organisation’s Scope 1, 2 or 3 inventory. Within BioMetrix, it enables BioHygiene customers to understand both the footprint associated with their purchases and the estimated difference created by choosing a defined lower-carbon alternative.
Raising expectations across the cleaning industry
James Patterson, CEO of Biological Preparations, said: “The next era of cleaning will not be defined solely by what is inside the container. It will be defined by what suppliers can evidence, what customers can understand and what organisations can improve as a result.
“Large businesses are being asked to reduce environmental impact while protecting performance, controlling cost and managing increasingly complex estates. Sustainability and commercial viability can no longer be treated as competing priorities; they have to work together.
“That is why we created BioMetrix. By connecting purchasing information with product-level usage and carbon evidence, we can help customers see where cleaning is performing well, where opportunities exist and how individual choices contribute to a much bigger picture.
“BioHygiene has always believed businesses should not have to choose between effective cleaning and a more sustainable future. BioMetrix gives our customers clearer evidence that these ambitions can go hand in hand and raises the standard of transparency the cleaning industry should be expected to provide.”
From biotechnology to business intelligence
BioHygiene was launched by Biological Preparations in 2016, bringing the company’s biotechnology expertise into professional cleaning.
Its Cleaner, Leaner, Greener approach is built around the belief that organisations should not have to choose between effective cleaning, operational efficiency, commercial viability and environmental progress.
BioMetrix extends that approach beyond product formulation. By making purchasing, calculated usage and carbon information more accessible, BioHygiene aims to help customers turn cleaning from a largely invisible operational activity into a clearer source of business insight.
BioMetrix is available to BioHygiene customers purchasing through participating distributors, with access and ongoing support provided through their dedicated BioHygiene account manager.
