Glittering UKHA Summer Ball and awards is a smash hit

Over 300 guests attended this year’s UKHA Summer Ball, which incorporated the Hotel & Housekeeping Honours Awards, and celebrated the hospitality sector’s hard work, dedication and talent.

Traditionally, the UK Housekeepers Association’s (UKHA) summer ball is hosted by different regions and, this year, it was the Midlands and South West’s region’s turn to hold the event, which took place at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Stratford upon Avon on 7 July.

The region joined forces with Meg Events to also stage the prestigious ‘Triple H’ awards, recognising the unsung housekeeping heroes across the country, during the evening.

The awards are generously sponsored and supported by suppliers to the sector who also attended the glitzy evening to make personal presentations.

During the event, tribute was paid to one particular guest, British Cleaning Council Company Secretary Simon Hollingbery, who was cited for his work over the years at the BCC by Delia Cannings, who led the event on behalf of the UKHA Midlands and South West region.

A particular mention was his support of the sector’s All-Party Parliamentary Group and the appetite to push the Government to recognise heroic frontline cleaning staff, like many of those in attendance and receiving awards on the evening.

The speech was Canning’s last duty before stepping back from the role as regional Chair which she has held for several years.

Speaking afterwards, Cannings, who is also BCC Chair, said: ”The evening was delightful, the weather amazing and the vibe was simply awesome. I want to congratulate all the very worthy award winners who were genuinely lifted by the audience, which recognised the turbulent times these wonderful housekeeping teams had navigated.

“It has been my pleasure to serve this association and I will remain involved with the hospitality sector in various ways as we continue the fight for solid recognition from the Government.

“The region is now in the capable hands of Melanie Penn and I wish her much success as she takes it to new heights.”
