Peartree Cleaning targets approved by SBTi in second year of reporting
Peartree Cleaning Services has received SBTi Services approval for its greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets in its second year of reporting, marking a significant milestone in the company’s long-term commitment to reducing its environmental impact.
As Peartree Cleaning celebrates its 40th year in business, the approval reflects the company’s continued focus on responsible growth, environmental leadership and building a more sustainable future for its clients and the wider industry.
The Science Based Targets initiative’s Target Validation Team assessed Peartree Cleaning Services Limited’s targets against its SME Criteria Assessment Indicators and approved the company’s submitted targets.
Peartree Cleaning’s approved targets include a commitment to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 42 per cent by 2030, from a 2023 base year, and to measure and reduce its Scope 3 emissions. The company has also committed to reaching net-zero by 2050, including a 90 per cent reduction in Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions by 2050 from a 2023 base year.
SBTi Services has classified Peartree’s Scope 1 and 2 target ambition as being in line with a 1.5°C trajectory, which is currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process.
The approval builds on Peartree’s wider environmental strategy, which includes publishing full Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions data, working with supply chain partners on CO2e reduction plans, reducing water, energy and chemical use across cleaning operations, and investing in more sustainable procurement. Peartree is also using improved tracking and reporting to help clients better understand and address their own Scope 3 emissions.
Georgie Hull, Sustainability Manager at Peartree Cleaning, said: “Having our targets approved by SBTi Services is an important milestone for Peartree and reflects the work that has gone into developing a robust, science-led approach to emissions reduction.
“As we celebrate 40 years of Peartree, this achievement gives us a clear framework for the future and builds on the practical steps already taking place across the business. Reaching net-zero will require long-term focus, transparency and collaboration, but this is a significant step forward and one we are very proud of.”
The approved targets are expected to be published on the SBTi Target Dashboard later this month.
