Three industry bodies launch global AI Readiness Toolkit to guide Cleaning and FM’s AI journey

EFCI, WFBSC, and BSCAI unveil multilingual resources for responsible AI rollout

Three leading industry bodies representing the cleaning and facilities management sectors have launched a new global AI Readiness Toolkit to help businesses navigate the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI).

The European Cleaning and Facility Services Industry (EFCI) has partnered with the World Federation of Building Service Contractors (WFBSC) and the Building Service Contractors Association International (BSCAI) on this new international collection of resources, which offers practical guidance to businesses at every stage of AI development.

The toolkit gives businesses a structured approach to assess their AI readiness, establish appropriate policies and governance, and implement AI confidently and responsibly. A joint initiative of EFCI, BSCAI and WFBSC, the toolkit was developed for the three associations and their members by specialist AI training and consultancy provider for essential industries, CBAi. It reflects the associations’ shared commitment to providing practical AI education and resources to support the global cleaning and FM industries they represent.

“AI adoption will look different from company to company and market to market,” said Avril McCarthy, President, EFCI. “What contractors share, however, is the need for trusted, practical guidance. This collaboration allows us to combine expertise and perspectives from across the industry to create resources that contractors can adapt to their own organisations.”

The AI Readiness Toolkit is designed to support companies at different stages of their AI journey, from organisations just beginning to explore AI to those already incorporating AI-powered tools into their operations. The initial toolkit will include a customisable AI policy template, readiness checklists, a sector-specific prompt library, an AI governance essentials guide, and more. The launch is particularly timely as businesses navigate an evolving regulatory landscape, including the EU AI Act, and face growing expectations around responsible AI use. Recognising the industry’s global nature and the members these organisations serve, the toolkit will be available in six languages as a standard offering.

The toolkit officially launched at EFCI Connect 2026, in Mallorca, Spain, in October. The initiative will also be highlighted in November during BSCAI’s Contracting Success Conference in Las Vegas, which will also host the 2026 WFBSC Congress, bringing together contractors and industry leaders from around the world. The events provide an opportunity to introduce the toolkit to both European and global audiences and reinforce the associations’ shared commitment to helping the industry prepare for the future of work.

“Artificial intelligence is changing the way businesses operate around the world, and the contract cleaning industry is no exception,” said Stan Doobin, CBSE, Chairman and President, WFBSC. “Our goal is to move beyond simply talking about AI and give contractors practical resources they can put to work in their businesses. By collaborating across organisations and geographies, we can help companies of all sizes approach AI with greater confidence and purpose.”

Together, EFCI, BSCAI, and WFBSC are working to ensure that contractors have access to resources that reflect both the opportunities created by AI and the need for thoughtful governance and responsible implementation.
