Prominent figures from the cleaning and hygiene sector will brief MPs and Peers on Tuesday April 20 about how to restore people’s confidence in using work and public spaces following the Covid-19 pandemic.
The key session is being run by the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the UK Cleaning and Hygiene industry and is entitled Cleaning and Hygiene’s Role in Restoring the Public’s Confidence Post-Covid in Using Work and Public Spaces.
It is the first major public meeting for the APPG since its formation earlier this year and could be an important step in helping raise the profile of the cleaning and hygiene industry. The discussion will explore the vital role of the cleaning and hygiene sector in helping the UK recover from the pandemic and into the future.
Jim Melvin said: “I’m hugely looking forward to our first major discussion with APPG members about the vital role our sector has in restoring public confidence during and after the pandemic. It promises to be an informative, valuable and very important discussion.
“We think the key areas include what businesses need to do to reassure their workforce and visitors and whether they ready and able to do that.
“We believe that cleaning and hygiene needs to be prioritised and highly-visible, and delivered by professional staff in a sustainable way in our work and public spaces order to restore confidence.
“But this is not just about what we do during the pandemic. We think this presents an outstanding and much-needed opportunity to change the UK’s culture for good in order that health and wellbeing are always at the top of the agenda and there is recognition of the important role of the cleaning and hygiene sector in achieving that.”
Those taking part in the panel discussion, including:
- Deborah Bland, Global Marketing Manager BSC and Retail, Diversey
- Delia Cannings, British Cleaning Council Director and National Lead for Education & Training, the Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (ahcp)
- Dave Fuller, Account Director, Bunzl Cleaning & Hygiene
- Dr John Hines, Director of Research and Development at SC Johnson Professional
- Darren Marston, Executive Chairman, Industrial Cleaning Equipment Ltd
- Jim Melvin, Deputy Chair of the British Cleaning Council, Cleaning & Support Services Association (CSSA) Director and Group CEO, Exclusive Contract Services
