An innovative street cleaning machine is helping Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter to shine even brighter.
The Jewellery Quarter is a unique mixture of jewellery makers and retailers, and also has a thriving food and drink scene. The Jewellery Quarter Business Improvement District (JQBID) recently invested in a Glutton street cleaner for its Clean Team, to help further improve cleanliness in the area.
Luke Crane, Executive Director of JQBID, said: “The Glutton machine we recently purchased for the Jewellery Quarter BID is a fantastic addition to our Clean Team. It is extremely easy to manoeuvre, something we thought we would have difficulty with, but just the opposite has been the case.
“It is also a very easy machine to use, the suction of the Glutton is very powerful there are very few things it won’t pick up and should there be a blockage anywhere in the pipe it is so easy to remove.”
The Glutton is an all-electric, pedestrian controlled vacuum cleaner that can tackle dust, dirt and debris up to 12.5cm in diameter. The battery-powered machine is quiet, efficient and designed to capture dust, helping to improve air quality. The Jewellery Quarter is one of the first to deploy the Glutton H₂O Perfect, which has an integrated power washer. The vacuum picks up waste from the smallest recesses, while the water jet deep cleans any remaining debris. The water tank can also be mixed with sanitiser so the machine can sanitise public infrastructure such as bins and benches.
It is designed for us on all types of ground, including concrete, tarmac, paving, lawns, and cinder tracks. It is equally effective outdoors on pavements, public roads and car parks as it is indoors in shopping centres, factories and warehouses.
More compact, quiet and environmentally friendly than a truck – and far more efficient than a broom – the Glutton is increasingly popular with local authorities across the UK. Workers benefit from less risk of stress and strain, while workers, residents and visitors to town and city centres benefit from the Glutton’s low noise emissions and impressive dust capture.
The electric-powered Glutton provides up to 12 hours of operation between battery charges, zero carbon emissions and almost no dust, thanks to a 24sq m dust filter. An integrated battery charger means it does not have to return to base to be recharged. The electric drive train also means that the Glutton is virtually maintenance-free.
“For us, the Glutton has two outstanding features: The volume of water that the spray tank can hold and the battery life,” said Crane. “We can go all week without refilling the water tank, which is of great advantage to us. A fully charged battery sees us through the working day no matter how far we may go with the machine. The Glutton is making a huge difference to the level of cleanliness in the Jewellery Quarter and will no doubt pay for itself during its lifespan.”
Nationwide sales, service and product support is provided by ePower Trucks, the authorised UK distributor for the Glutton.
