Manchester Cleaning Show to focus on future of cleaning and wider FM issues

The full programme for the second Manchester Cleaning Show, the northern edition of The Cleaning Show which now alternates annually with Excel in London, has been announced.

Already set to be bigger than the first Manchester event in terms of floorspace, visitor registration figures also suggest it will be busier than in 2016 with over 1,000 people having already booked an entry ticket which are available free of charge.

The two-day event – being hosted at Event City in Manchester on April 11th and 12th 2018 -will be focused on the future of UK’s cleaning. The FM sector will also be well represented, with The British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) set to be exhibiting.

The Manchester Cleaning Show will commence with an opening address from Stan Atkins, the Chair of the British Cleaning Council (BCC), who will be outlining the key issues which he believes are some of the most pressing for both the cleaning and wider FM industries.

These include raising professional standards, improving skills provision, the need for more robust and fair procurement practices and the impending recruitment crisis facing the industry.

Atkins will also highlight the recent in-depth research report which was undertaken by the BCC to get a clearer picture of the size, scale and complexity of the UK cleaning market.

This will be followed by a kick-off session called Preparing for the Future, which will be led by the authors of the BCC’s report, Firedog Research.

Firedog analysts will be presenting the headline findings from the research, and sharing some key insights and conclusions about what the data means for the cleaning sector.

This overarching snapshot of where the cleaning sector is, and where it is potentially heading, will then be followed a series of themed sessions from a diverse range of speakers and organisations.

Health and Safety will be very high on the agenda, with a presentation from the Federation of Window Cleaners (FWC) about the risks of working at height, together with a series of workshops facilitated by the HSE.

Staffing, recruitment and employee wellbeing are set to be other key topics, with presentations from BACHE, BICSc and CERATA all set to be linked to the different issues around these topics.

The potential impact of Brexit on employment will also be discussed by Bespoke Cleaning Solutions, while the consequences of the UK leaving Europe from a more commercial perspective will be explored by contract cleaning firm Cleanology.

Doing better business, and increasing productivity, are other areas set to be discussed through the show’s speaker programme.

SmartTask will be examining the issue of improved efficiency, while experts from the worlds of sales, marketing and PR will be demonstrating how digital channels and integrated communications can boost customer engagement and drive new business.

In the exhibition area leading brands and manufacturers will be demonstrating their newest products.

Nilfisk, Karcher and Killis will all be promoting the latest advances in their services and equipment, as will firms such as Floorbrite, Bunzl, SmartTask, Host, Duplex, Greyland and Prochem.

Dennis Rawlins, Sebo, Vaclensa, Telelog, Templa and UhUb will also be exhibiting at the show, alongside niche suppliers including Osprey Deepclean, RPC, Arrow County Supplies, Biovation, GermXit, Moreclean and Cromwell Polythene.

In addition, Jangro have confirmed that they will be bringing their popular double decker bus to Manchester, which was debuted at The Cleaning Show in London last year.

Suppliers to niche sectors such as healthcare, retail and leisure, transport, public buildings and window cleaning will also be well represented.

Trade and membership associations will also be in attendance including the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), the British Pest Control Association (BPCA), the Domestic Cleaning Alliance (DCA), The Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals (AHCP), The British Toilet Association (BTA), The Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers’ Association (CHSA), WAMITAB and the Association of Building Cleaning Service Providers (ABCD).

The ABCD will also using the event to announce their public sector Cleaning Team of the Year Award, sponsored Denis Rawlins Ltd, which was won last year by Rochdale Council.

Another major trade association, The Federation of Window Cleaners (FWC), will once again be hosting the annual Window Cleaning Challenge, where the fastest entrants get the chance to win £250.
