Rentokil Specialist Hygiene offers specialist disinfection services to assist with COVID-19

Rentokil Specialist Hygiene, a specialist cleaning and disinfection services provider, is offering a range of specialist disinfection services to assist with Coronavirus (COVID-19) containment and control or to undertake specialist disinfection of a premises depending on the situation.

For all services, Rentokil Specialist Hygiene qualified technicians are equipped with the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE), respiratory protective equipment (RPE) and specialist disinfection equipment, to provide specialist cleaning and disinfection service options safely and effectively.

Service for COVID-19 confirmed or suspected within 72 hours
The first service option is provided in the event of a confirmed or suspected case of COVID-19 on premises within 72 hours of the case being reported, and where the site needs to be up and running quickly. Technicians will implement stringently risk assessed infection control measures that go beyond the minimum World Health Organisation guidance.

Firstly, Rentokil Specialist Hygiene will survey the site wearing the appropriate PPE and RPE. Then, guided by the site-specific risk assessment, method statement and safe operating procedures, technicians will meticulously manually disinfect rooms and areas that pose a threat of causing cross contamination, using a high-level surface disinfectant on surfaces such as floors, walls, ceilings and any objects. Ultra-low volume (ULV) fogging, which involves using equipment to generate extremely small droplets of disinfectant fog, may also be used when required, to allow for the treatment of large areas in a short space of time.

All waste generated as part of the disinfection process is segregated on site and is then disposed of in a safe and legally compliant manner to help eliminate cross contamination. Waste can be handled as clinical waste during segregation, transportation and disposal, in line with the COVID-19: infection prevention and control guidance set out by Public Health England.

Service for COVID-19 confirmed or suspected that is older than 72 hours
Government guidance states that under most circumstances, the amount of infectious virus on any contaminated surface is likely to have significantly decreased by 72 hours. If there is a suspected case of COVID-19 at premises or a building has been closed for 72 hours, Rentokil Specialist Hygiene can disinfect the premises.Technicians wearing full PPE and RPE will manually disinfect key touchpoints, such as door handles and kitchen surfaces, using a using high-level surface disinfectant to help minimise the risk of infection. ULV disinfection fogging will also be carried out, to help ensure that all necessary areas are disinfected. Rentokil Specialist Hygiene will then remove all waste from the site, following the relevant guidance and legislation.

All-purpose specialist disinfection
Even if there are no confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19 on a site, Rentokil Specialist Hygiene can still carry out a specialist disinfection to help protect against microbial infection and to help maintain a high level of hygiene on premises. Technicians wearing the appropriate PPE and RPE will use ULV disinfection fogging to allow large areas to be treated quickly and efficiently. Droplets of the disinfectant fog settle underneath, on top of and on the sides of many objects and inaccessible areas. There is also an option for technicians to carry out manual targeted touchpoint cleaning using a high-level surface disinfectant.

Contingency survey
For companies wishing to minimise potential shut-down periods, Rentokil Specialist Hygiene also offers a contingency survey that incorporates a site-specific risk assessment of the premises. This accelerates the process considerably in the event of a COVID-19 case being suspected or confirmed, and a full disinfection being necessary.

Jamie Woodhall, Technical & Innovations Manager at Rentokil Specialist Hygiene commented: “Preventing the spread of the COVID-19 must be the number one priority for all employers and employees, and a proactive approach to health and hygiene is the key to achieving this.

“If you have had a confirmed or suspected case of the COVID-19 virus on your premises, then it is vital to consult disinfection experts swiftly. They are qualified to advise on the appropriate action that needs to be taken, can conduct a thorough deep clean and dispose of the resulting waste safely to help prevent further cross contamination. They will also be able to get these essential businesses and services back up and running as quickly as possible, and in a safe and professional manner.”
