Bio-D celebrates double award win

Green cleaning company Bio-D is celebrating after claiming award wins in two different parts of the business.

In addition to being awarded the title of ‘Manufacturer of the Year’ (under £25m) at this year’s Insider Made in Yorkshire Awards, Bio-D has also been announced as one of the UK’s ‘Best Small Workplaces for Women’ in this year’s Best Workplaces list, published by Great Place to Work UK.

The Made in Yorkshire Awards celebrates all that’s great about the manufacturing industry. Selected from a competitive shortlist, the Hull-based green cleaning company was recognised for its hard work and determination during the pandemic, which saw a huge surge in demand for its products.

Bio-D also secured ninth place on this year’s Best Workplaces for Women’s small businesses list, with the recognition following an employee survey and culture audit of the organisation’s programmes and practices.

With a current workforce of 41, 49 per cent of staff at Bio-D are female, with 66 per cent of the higher management team identifying as female.

Lloyd Atkin, MD at Bio-D, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been recognised both for our manufacturing excellence, and for creating a great workplace for women.

“At Bio-D, we don’t just want to do good through our business activity, we also want our team to feel valued and motivated. This recognition means a lot as it is based on direct employee feedback, including the extent to which employees trust team leaders, the respect with which people are treated, the fairness of workplace decisions, and how much camaraderie there is among the team.

“The Made in Yorkshire Award win was well deserved by the Bio-D team, especially after the past year when production pressures increased in line with demand. I am extremely proud of the team for going above and beyond in their roles, which I believe is reflected perfectly with the award win.”
