CHSA increases its undergraduate bursary

The Cleaning & Hygiene Suppliers Association (CHSA) has increased its annual undergraduate bursary. The Association is now offering more financial support to more young people going to university than ever before.

In 2023 four talented young people will receive a total of £6,000 during their university career. This means an additional young person will receive the bursary, which has increased in value by 33 per cent.

David Garcia, Vice President of the CHSA and the driving force behind the bursary explained: “The bursary offers very valuable financial support to young people. It can make a huge difference to the students’ experiences of university. Previous recipients have used it to pay for field trips, books and equipment, and society membership, as well as general living costs.

“With the cost of living squeezing the resources of many young people, the time was right to increase the bursary. Taking the number of recipients up to four and increasing the value to a total of £6,000 is a big step forward. We are proud to give something back in this way and offer this support to the children of our members’ employees.

“I am very much looking forward to meeting the 2023 cohort of talented applicants but not the difficult process of selecting the final four!”

The Bursary is paid in three instalments, £2,000 paid at the start of each academic year or for the first three years if the degree is four years or longer. Existing recipients of the undergraduate bursary will have their remaining annual payments uplifted to £2,000 per annum.

The CHSA Undergraduate Bursary is open only to the children of employees of CHSA members.

Applicants must be 18 years or over on 1 September 2023 and commencing their higher education studies this autumn.  They will be assessed according to need, worthiness, endeavour and overall performance. Each successful applicant will also bring something unique, their ‘x-factor’.

Applying is simple.  Eligible young people need to visit the CHSA website and click on the link on the Bursary page.  The form includes a 400-word statement and it is advisable to draft the statement prior to accessing the form.

The closing date for applications is Friday 30 June 2023. Shortlisted applicants need to be available to meet the judging panel, to be led by CHSA Vice President David Garcia, in July 2023. The successful applicants will be notified by Friday 28 July 2023.
