Manufacturer and supplier of away-from-home (AfH) professional paper hygiene and wiping products, Northwood Hygiene Products Ltd, has underlined its commitment to sustainability with the appointment of a dedicated Sustainability Manager.
Former Category Manager Joel Quick, who has worked for Northwood for five years, will be leading Northwood’s forward vision for sustainability, helping to steer the business in an efficient and responsible way. Based at the firm’s headquarters in Telford, Quick will further develop and implement Northwood’s sustainability strategy with the aim of reducing its environmental impact.
As part of his remit to oversee the management of Northwood’s environmental and social initiatives, he will implement more efficient and environmentally-conscious practices for the business and ensure Northwood partners with like-minded ethical and responsible companies.
Quick will lead on finding intelligent ways to reduce waste and energy consumption throughout the business and ensure the continuation of best business practices. Alongside new HR director Dawn Roberts, he will also identify and manage the social impact of Northwood’s operations on employees, customers and the community.
Speaking about his new appointment Quick said: “Sustainability is a topic that I am extremely passionate about and I am excited to help Northwood drive impactful, sustainable change. The business is making great strides in sustainability and social purpose, and it has really ambitious goals for the future. I am looking forward to helping Northwood achieve its targets, not just by delivering on its sustainability strategy, but also by embedding a sustainability culture across the business.”
Paul Mulready, Marketing Manager at Northwood, commented: “There is an increasing need for environmental and social sustainability and Joel’s appointment marks our commitment to take a leading role in sustainability by finding innovative, new and sustainable solutions to help us lead the market. It is an exciting development for us as we prepare to build sustainability into all areas of the business and meet the challenges of the future.”
As a true UK manufacturer, Northwood is focused on a full circle economy. It is one of a handful of companies in the UK that is fully vertically integrated, selling as well as converting parent reels. The business collects more than 100,000 tonnes of recovered fibres and produces more than 70,000 recycled parent reels a year. Eighty per cent of Northwood’s products are made from recycled paper and all of Northwood’s paper mills now produce Forest Stewardship Council (FSC®) certified base sheet paper.
Northwood is involved at each point in the supply chain, from raw material supply, tissue and towel manufacturing, end user product converting and transportation. The business operates across 10 sites in the UK, which includes three tissue mills. The ISO 14001 accredited mills minimise waste and impact on the local environment wherever possible. Working closely with the agriculture sector, the mills supply farms with manufacturing by-products, which are used for animal bedding and fertiliser.
