After providing emergency support to remove and treat waste over the Christmas period, phs healthcare has been awarded the contract to service Barchester Healthcare, which has over 200 care homes, supporting 11,000 residents. Its services include the collection and disposal of offensive waste, hazardous waste and sharps.
Clare Noble, Head of Healthcare at phs, believes the success of the contract win is due to the “breadth of the business and its flexibility in meeting customers’ needs”. This was demonstrated when, just before Christmas, it delivered an emergency response to Barchester Healthcare, collecting waste from more than 50 priority sites when its current provider was unable to do so.
Noble commented: “Our staff took on extra visits to make sure built-up waste was collected as quickly as possible. We also called upon our hygiene division to assist the operation and emergency stock – such as waste bins and bags – was swiftly distributed to all sites. All of this was over the festive period; the team really went the extra mile. The hard work has paid off and we’re pleased that it has translated into a long-term contract with Barchester.”
With an estimated 35,828 offensive waste collections and around 5,000 sharps collections each year, phs’ healthcare operations team will now service Barchester’s 200+ sites over the next three years.
Jodi Turner, Director of Procurement at Barchester Healthcare said “We’re really proud to have joined forces with phs. Our priority at our Barchester Healthcare homes is to provide the residents we care for with comfortable, living spaces, and having a reliable waste removal supplier is a key aspect of this.”
With more than 90,000 customers across 300,000 locations nationwide, phs now provides healthcare waste services to more than 1,300 care homes for five of the UK’s biggest independent care home providers in the UK, including Four Seasons and HC-One.
