Vertas Group has acquired a majority stake in million-pound waste management and pest control business MMB Environmental.
The purchase of the Warwickshire-based business comes as Vertas Group moves to become a Total Facilities Management (TFM) provider.
MMB Environmental will be rebranded as Vertas Environmental and will enhance other FM services the group offers, such as property management, security, contract catering and cleaning. MMB has already built up an enviable client list, designing and operating bespoke waste solutions for Bannatyne Group, Global Exhibition Specialists and Zenith Contract Services.
The acquisition strengthens Vertas’ environmental credentials. Vertas provides catering for approximately 400 schools and since 2016 MMB has been converting the used cooking oil into biodiesel. Going forward it is envisaged that this biodiesel will stay within the group and be used to power grounds maintenance equipment such as lawnmowers and hedge trimmers.
The next priority for Vertas Environmental will be to remove as much plastic as possible from group’s catering division.
Speaking about the acquisition, Ian Surtees, Vertas Group Limited’s CEO, said: “Through a combination of organic growth and acquisitions, Vertas Group Limited has already developed a diverse range of services from energy to passenger transport.
“The formation of Vertas Environmental completes a missing link and allows us to add bolt-on services to both new and existing clients. Waste management is a growth area for us and should lead to job creation wherever we secure new contracts.
“This acquisition takes us one step further to our goal of being a total facilities management provider. Having this in-house capability will ensure a seamless service to clients.”
