Capital Service Solutions Group (CSSG), one of Scotland’s leading specialist cleaning companies, has strengthened its senior leadership team with the appointment of its first head of HSEQ and Facilities Management.
Lawrence Curran joins the Livingston-based firm from a similar position at veterinary services company Linnaeus.
A former facilities manager at South Lanarkshire Council, he brings a wealth of experience to the new role as CSSG prepares for its next phase of growth with a focus on the pharmaceuticals and hotel sectors.
With a growing UK-wide client base, CSSG specialises in professional cleaning, decorating and waste management and was voted Business of the Year at the West Lothian Chamber of Commerce Awards in December.
MD Moreland McDiarmid believes the arrival of Mr Curran will be a valuable asset to the family-run company as it looks to strengthen its full FM capability and increase the range within its existing model.
“We previously used external resources for health and safety and quality assurance,” he said. “We decided to fulfil these internally so rather than have a generic response to clients’ needs, we could make the process quicker, bespoke and purpose-fit not only for where we are just now but where we want to go in the future.
“Lawrence brings a wealth of experience in health and safety, with a strong track record of supporting teams to maintain high standards across a range of environments. He is vastly experienced and I’m very pleased to have him on board as part of our senior leadership team as we look to open up new avenues for the business.
“We have a three-year growth plan in place and Lawrence will play a key role in delivering on that along with his colleagues. His arrival expands our facilities management capability and oversight, giving us greater scope and depth across our existing soft services and integrated FM offering.
“He will play a key role in strengthening our commitment to safety, compliance and continuous improvement across all sites. Having someone of his standing heading up this side of the business instils great confidence in people. He is very accessible for clients and that allows me to look at other aspects of the business as we continue to grow.”
Curran has been involved in facilities management for 25 years, 12 of which were at local authority level and he’s looking forward to helping Capital continue to make an impact throughout the UK.
“I was very impressed with Moreland’s vision and how he wants the business to grow,” he said.
“One thing which resonated with me was his drive and focus on commitment to health and safety. It’s refreshing to see a managing director determined to galvanise this area of his organisation and our thoughts aligned on that. I think this is an excellent fit for both of us. There’s a real family feel to the company. There is a work ethos, of course, but there is also a flexible approach to the day-to-day business and that is reflected in how happy the staff are and how long many of them have been with Capital.”
