Facilities transformation company, Mitie has announced the enrolment of 20 learners for its new Cleaning Hygiene Operative Level 2 apprenticeship programme, helping to kick start their learning and development journey.
The Cleaning Hygiene Operative apprenticeship offers specialised training and development opportunities for colleagues in the early stages of their careers in the commercial cleaning sector. This includes colleagues who are new to the industry and those who do not currently hold any formal qualifications and would like to advance their professional development.
Proposed by the British Cleaning Council (BCC) and approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE) in January 2024, the apprenticeship programme will equip colleagues with essential skills required for their roles as cleaning operatives. This includes advanced cleaning techniques tailored for diverse commercial environments, workload management, customer communication, and health and safety best practices.
As part of the course, learners will have access to a mix of practical, on-the-job training and theory-based learning including e-learning materials, practical workshops, videos and podcasts, and workbooks, giving them a blended learning experience. Upon course completion, learners will be offered a roadmap for continued career growth and success whether that is through further learning on a more advanced apprenticeship programme or new job opportunities within the commercial cleaning sector.
This new apprenticeship programme further cements Mitie’s commitment in investing in its people and supporting their development through apprenticeships as a member of the 5% Club, a group of organisations dedicated to achieving 5% of their workforce in earn and learn positions, such as apprentices and training schemes.
Jason Towse, Managing Director, Business Services, Mitie, said: “As a leading UK business and Top 100 Apprenticeship Employer, we welcome the introduction of this new Cleaning Hygiene Operative Level 2 Apprenticeship.
“Apprenticeships are great ways to professionalise industries and support people in achieving their career aspirations, and we’re proud to give our colleagues the opportunity to be amongst the first to take advantage of this new qualification.”
