McDreams Hotels automates cleaning with Nexaro technology

How can a hotel chain with high guest volumes and limited personnel resources ensure long-term cleanliness? As one of the first hotel chains in Germany, McDreams relies on fully digitised processes. Together with Nexaro, over 50 Nexaro NR 1500 autonomous robot vacuum cleaners and several Nexaro trolleys were integrated into the family-run budget hotel group’s nine properties. The result: measurably greater efficiency, significantly less workload for housekeeping and a consistently high level of cleanliness across approximately 40,000 m².

In a business with a high daily volume of guests, reliable, flexible cleaning is essential – especially in corridors and publicly accessible areas. At McDreams, up to three cleaning cycles are carried out per location every day. Nexaro’s automated solution relieves the burden on cleaning staff and ensures consistent cleaning quality—even with daily fluctuations in workload.

“Carpet cleaning is one of the classic routine tasks. It takes time, is physically demanding, and still has to be performed reliably,” says Linda Ruppel, Area Manager for NRW at McDreams. “This is a real challenge, especially when there is a high turnover of guests. In the past, you had to send the staff out again if late-arriving guests brought dirt in with them. Today we simply send the robot—even at night, and even when operations are ongoing. No noise, no disturbance.”

Together with Nexaro, a cleaning concept was developed that relies on a combination of permanently installed and mobile devices—controlled via the Nexaro HUB platform. The Nexaro NR 1500 autonomous robot vacuum cleaner is a central component of the so-called cobotics concept.

In the corridors, permanently installed devices ensure constantly clean walkways on independently defined routes. The flexible Drop & Go function is used in the rooms. Cleaning staff simply place the robots in the room and start the process at the push of a button—while the bathroom or beds are being prepared at the same time. “This saves time, provides structure, and reduces physical strain,” explains Ruppel.

The transition to the automated cleaning process went smoothly: “The integration into the Nexaro HUB was intuitive—I was able to train my colleagues in less than half an hour,” reports Ruppel. The feedback from guests is also clear. The quality of cleaning is actively perceived—and is reflected in the positive reviews.

The Nexaro NR 1500 meets the highest safety standards: It is certified by TÜV SÜD and complies with the international standard IEC 63327 and the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Equipped with state-of-the-art sensors, AI-supported navigation, a large dust container, and a HEPA H13 filter, it ensures thorough cleaning.
